Here is one of the reasons I do not ever want to go out a run in public:
I was riding the bus home from work on Monday, and these two high school girls got on and sat behind me on the bus. We were driving down the read and on the pavement beside us, there was a perfectly fit and healthy young woman going for her daily jog.
These high school girls both opened the windows on the bus, leaned out and started screaming “OI YOU FAT FUCKING WHORE! THAT’S RIGHT, FUCKING JOB ON YOUR FAT ASS CHUNKY BITCH! GO AND RUN TO ALL THEM CAKES YOU WANT TO EAT YOU FUCKING FAT LITTLE CUNT SLUT!”
It continued all the way down the street until we turned off down a separate street to the runner. This woman wasn’t even chubby in the slightest, she had abs and was fairly young too, carrying her water bottle as she ran. She didn’t have any music with her, no headphones or anything and I could see as it was happening that her pace slowed a little and it looked as if she were trying to keep from bursting into tears. Her face just looked really bothered and hurt.
I live in an area where people shouting abuse like that is common, sometimes it even gets physical and people throw things like rocks and empty bottles at people in the street for just simply going about their daily routine. I don’t ever want to be on the receiving end of things like that, and so I hide from it because I know I’m not mentally stable enough to ignore it all and keep going.
